Parametrix Techniques and Martingale Problems for Some Degenerate Kolmogorov Equations

We prove the uniqueness of the martingale problem associated to some degenerate operators. The key point is to exploit the strong parallel between the new technique introduced by Bass and Perkins [2] to prove uniqueness of the martingale problem in the framework of non-degenerate elliptic operators and the Mc Kean and Singer [13] parametrix approach to the density expansion that has previously ...

Martingale problems for conditional distributions of Markov processes

Let X be a Markov process with generator A and let Y (t) = γ(X(t)). The conditional distribution πt of X(t) given σ(Y (s) : s ≤ t) is characterized as a solution of a filtered martingale problem. As a consequence, we obtain a generator/martingale problem version of a result of Rogers and Pitman on Markov functions. Applications include uniqueness of filtering equations, exchangeability of the s...

Uniqueness of Solution to the Kolmogorov Forward Equation: Applications to White Noise Theory of Filtering

We consider a signal process X taking values in a complete, separable metric space E. X is assumed to be a Markov process charachterized via the martingale problem for an operator A. In the context of the finitely additive white noise theory of filtering, we show that the optimal filter Γt(y) is the unique solution of the analogue of the Zakai equation for every y, not necessarily continuous. T...

Equivalence of stochastic equations and martingale problems

The fact that the solution of a martingale problem for a diffusion process gives a weak solution of the corresponding Itô equation is well-known since the original work of Stroock and Varadhan. The result is typically proved by constructing the driving Brownian motion from the solution of the martingale problem and perhaps an auxiliary Brownian motion. This constructive approach is much more ch...
